Swabodhini is a school for special children tucked cozily in the serene neighbourhood of Thiruvanmiyur, in Chennai, India. The school was born out of deep passion to meet the special needs of 4 children; from its humble beginnings in 1989, the school has grown rapidly. Today, the school is committed to teach and train 60 children apart from imparting occupational therapy to another 40 children –
a number that is growing. Although it is painful to see the number of differently able children increase, the positive side that the school sees is the fact that there is more awareness amongst parents to accept the difference in the abilities of these children and seek professional support. The school views every admission as an opportunity to strive and overcome all limitations by tapping on and drawing out every aspect of hidden potential and capabilities.

This focused approach and the school’s  growth in quantitative and qualitative terms have resulted
in the school being granted Government recognition in 2006- a major milestone in itself.

Swabodhini functions in a large, well-planned independent building consisting of 5,500 square feet
at a prime location in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai.

A bright, stimulating and attractive learning environment has been created for these special children,
particularly in high standards of cleanliness and maintenance. The school building consists of spacious, well ventilated classrooms. Each classroom has an attached washroom with change area to train them in the
activities of daily living skills like brushing, dressing, grooming skills etc. Each classroom has display boards to exhibit the creative work of the students.
