| "Exceptional human beings must be given exceptional educational treatment, treatment which takes into account their special difficulties. Further, we can show that despite abnormality, human beings can fulfill their social role within the community, especially if they find understanding, love and guidance.” |

| “As I sit back and go down memory lane, I am awestruck at how quickly eighteen long years have rolled by since I came into contact with a catalyst, an association which has transformed me into a humane being. During my career as a teacher in a primary school, I chanced upon a boy who was different, who wanted ’help’ to make sense to his life, who struggled to do things that we take for granted. I strived patiently but earnestly to make things right for him. The experience was gratifying and this feeling grew in intensity which resulted in my starting classes at home and in the process ‘Swabodhini’ was born as a school for special children. ’Special children’, true to the word, they are indeed special with qualities that you liken to God. |

Today the school imparts special education and training to 60 students and also extends its Occupational therapy services to 40 more children from other schools. Educational goals are planned in the areas of self care, basic academics, communication, vocational skills, leisure and recreational interests and community living. The very essence of our training is to make them as independent as possible to be integrated into mainstream society. And the untiring and sustained efforts of our dedicated staff make our mission possible.” |
