“Your children need your presence more than your presents.”
- Jesse Jackson

Keeping in mind the mindset of parents who seek admission for their children, we at Swabodhini have developed a Parent Training Program. This program addresses the various questions they have regarding autism and special needs of their ward. Firstly, awareness is created among parents of special children, convincing them
that this disability of their child is undeniable. It’s only then, they can fully engage themselves for the well-being of their child. Later, we start providing them with useful tips on how to help train and educate their child. Parents are encouraged to attend useful lecture sessions by our school staff, school therapists and also experts from the field. These sessions shed light on myths and false-beliefs regarding autism and mental retardation.

At present, the support from parents of our special children is overwhelming. Most of them have involved themselves in making study materials for the school. A few others have volunteered to help teach our differently able students in various skills. It is quite healthy to see parents coming forward and taking part in our school’s activities to help special children grow into better, independent individuals.

Every year, a get-together for the families of our special students is organised. Entertainment apart, this meet encourages parents to share their views and ideas, and help them feel that they have a family to support them. Also, siblings of our students are roped-in to participate in various games and events. They are welcome to help as volunteers during sports day, annual day and other festivities. They are made to feel special about their differently able sibling and realise that their help is needed for their development.
